GRT Opportunities - Helping young and vulnerable people with life skills to lead full and independant lives.
'Build Me A Life' Project: has a key purpose to empower young people with life skills, helping them to lead independent lives. We at T-HOP (UK) LTD have set up this innovative project set in beautiful region of Abruzzo, ITALY with the support of SOLID LINC, an up and coming company that is helping individuals to realise their dreams, who are heavily involved in supporting the GRT Opportunities project from inception through to the end.
Project details:
Who: T-HOP and SOLID Linc together, have built partnerships with funders, local authorities and multi-agencies that work and support children, young people and vulnerable adults in the UK.
What: The project will engage professionals from multi-disciplinary backgrounds to work with and support children, young people and vulnerable adults, ranging from ages 13yrs upwards from all corners of the world, with tutoring and life skills, including a provision of a facility for the youth with emotional and behavioural issues. In addition, a team of Qualified Service members will provide direct services to struggling young people who are in foster care, residential care and juvenile systems, with history of abuse, trauma and neglect.
When: We aim to commence delivery of this project as soon as possible with Phase 1 to be delivered by March 2017. Phase I; a camping provision for the children, young people and vulnerable adults, providing a 'safe haven' for all campers to enjoy the space and acquire life skills within the breathtaking space surrounded in nature. This will provide the resources to develop and sustain Phase II. We aim to raise £500,000 by the end of December 2017, to build 25 log cabins, fully equipped to accommodate 48 young people all year round from all over the world. More details of Phase I available HERE
Why: Supportive care is the ethos of our project. We aim to provide a service to local authorities and multi-agencies to support the well being of the people in care. From experience, most of the young people in care say that their experiences are good but could be better with the provision of some direction for them to be supported to lead more independent lives. But more needs to be done to ensure that all children in care are healthy and safe, have the same opportunities as their peers and can move successfully into adulthood. Children’s early experiences have a significant impact on their development and future life chances. As a result of their experiences both before and during care, looked after children are at greater risk than their peers. Statsitics show that children in care are 4 times more likely than their peers to have mental difficulty (Source - Office of National Statsitics); children in care are less likely than their peers to do well in school (Source - DFE 2014); and a small proportion of children in care experience further abuse and neglect whilst in care (Source - Biehal, N, et al 2014). Furthermore, Child Sexual Exploitation known cases identified that over 2,400 children were victims of sexual exploitation in gangs and groups from August 2010 to October 2011 (Source- Berelowitz, S. et al 2012). GRT Opportunities - 'Build Me A Life' Project aims to provide a great experience for these vulnerable people, giving them an opportunity 'in a safe space' to learn, value and grow.
Where: We are in the process of purchasing property in the region of Abruzzo in Italy, which will provide a 'safe haven' for all the users. The area was specifically chosen for it's safe environment and the peace and tranquility to enable anyone to process and reflect on. Follow us for more info here.
